1968 Ford Fairlane

The 1968 Ford Fairlane received a major restyling. Updates included a full-width grille, containing horizontally mounted quad headlights, and smooth sides with a single horizontal feature line running from the front to the rear. In the back, the taillights were vertically aligned rectangular units with a centrally positioned back-up light.

The base trim level for 1968 was the Ford Fairlane and came equipped with a chrome windshield and rear window moldings. They had a chrome horn ring, chrome rain gutter moldings, front and rear armrests, vinyl-coated rubber floor mats, cigarette lighter, and a single horizontal chrome trip strip that ran along the bodyside, with the Fairlane name at the front end.

Body styles include a 2- and 4-door sedan along with a station wagon. The base engine was a six-cylinder 170 cubic-inch engine offering 100 horsepower. Pricing began at $2450 for the 2-door sedan and $2460 for the 4-door version. The station wagon listed for $2770.

Body styles included in the Fairlane 500 was a 4-door sedan, fastback coupe, hardtop coupe, convertible, and a six-passenger station wagon.

The top trim level was the Fairlane Torino and included all the Fairlane 500 tri plus a lower bodyside molding, and special emblems and trim. They also had a Torino crest on the 'C' pillars of the two-door hardtop and four-door sedan.

The sporty version of the Fairlane 500 was the Fairlane Torino GT. They included all the Fairlane 500 features plus the 302 cubic-inch V8 rated at 210 horsepower. Inside were bucket seats and console, special name plaques and exterior trim. They also had Deluxe wheel covers and red safety and white courtesy lights on the interior door panels.
