The Ford F-Series fifth generation was produced from 1967 through 1972 and was built on the same platform as the late fourth generation F-Series truck. These fifth generation trucks had sharper styling lines, a larger cab, and more engine options. The cab was 3-inches wider than their predecessor and the frame became heavier. Trim levels included the base, custom cab, and ranger. For 1968, federal regulations mandated that all automobile manufactures add side maker reflectors or lights. Ford responded by redesigning the hood emblems to incorporate reflectors. Reflectors were also added to the rear of the bed. New versions of the FE engine were added. In 1969, the F-100 received a new grill design and a new 302 engine option. For 1970, many changes occurred including a completely new grill including wrap around front turn signals. They were given side marker lights, exterior trim changes, and the Sport Custom trim level replaced the Custom Cab and Ranger XLT.
