1965 Crossle C9S

In the mid-1950s, John Crossle built a Ford Racing Special. In the years that followed, his Crossle Car Company would build cars for Formula Atlantic/B, F2, F3, and even F5000. The Northern Ireland firm would continue to build Formula Ford single-seaters through the 1980s.

The company's sports-racing cars helped the company build a name and reputation on the Continental mainland. In 1966, the company built five C9S sports cars powered by rear-mounted Ford Lotus Twin Cam engines mated to Hewland MK.5 transmission in a spaceframe chassis. The bodywork was built using fiberglass.

Of the five C9S models built in 1966, three were raced by privateers while two were retained by the works. Period drivers with notable success included Tom Watson, John L'Amie, and Mervyn Winyfield.
