1978 Oldsmobile 442

The 1978 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 was an appearance and handling package on the Cutlass model line. It was available on the Salon and Salon Brougham Coupes. They had a blacked-out grille, wide '4-4-2' stripes along the rocker panels and lower doors, badging on the rear trunk, and interior emblems. All other options available on the Cutlass Salon were available with the 442 option package. Engine options varied from a 3.8 liter V6 to a 305 cubic-inch 4-barrel V8. Transmissions included a 3-speed automatic, a 5-speed manual, and a 4-speed Saginaw manual.

The name 442 first appeared in 1964 as an option on the F-85 and Cutlass. The 442 was technically the B09 Police Apprehender option which included the four-barrel carbureted 330 cubic-inch V8 with dual exhaust and 310 horsepower.
