1964 Bobsy Vanguard

Jerry Mong of Medina, Ohio, began building racing cars in the late 1950s. In the early 1960s, as the popularity of Formula Vee cars was continuing to grow, he decided to build cars to compete in this class. His first Formula Vee car, the Vanguard, was a simple car built on a ladder frame. Power was from a 1200cc Volkswagen engine and the body was clothed in fiberglass. Production continued through the mid-1960s, with over 100 examples built. In 1967, a second Formula Vee design was built - the Bobsy Vega - which had several improvements, updates, and modifications, including a very rigid chassis and a fuel cell.
