1972 Volkswagen Transporter

The 1972 Volkswagen Transporter (also known as the Type 2, Transporter, Kombi, Bus, Camper, and Microbus) was available as a Kombi, a 7- and 9-passenger Station Wagon, and a Campmobile. Power was from a horizontally opposed, overhead-valve four-cylinder engine displacing 96.7 cubic inches and offering 60 horsepower. Very few changes were implemented for 1972; one of the more visible changes was to the amber side safety light which was positioned further farther and was now oblong in shape.

The Second Generation T2 was produced from 1967 through 1979. The examples produced prior to 1971 are often called the T2a (or 'Early Bay') versions while those produced after 1972 are called the T2b (or 'Late Bay').

Production of the Volkswagen Transporter began in November of 1949 and has continued to modern day, now in its sixth generation. Generations are sequentially known as the T1, T2, T3, T4, T5 and T6. The first three generations were known as the Type 2, indicating their relative position to the Type 1, or Beetle. Thus, the first three generations are retroactively named T1, T2 and T3.
