The 2015 Dodge Journey – America's most affordable and most versatile crossover – set several sales records this past model year. Looking to build on this momentum in the marketplace, the Journey Crossroad model will continue on for 2015. Positioned between the SXT and Limited models, the Journey Crossroad features a rugged exterior appearance and unique leather interior seating and trim, starting at a starting Ú.S. manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $24,995.

Also new for 2015 is the addition of five years of free service for SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link with the Úconnect 8.4-inch touchscreen, where available on Journey models. Dodge Journey models offering SiriusXM Radio have one year of free service.

The 2015 Dodge Journey Crossroad features distinctive front and rear fascias with Platinum Chrome accents, Platinum Chrome side sills, Platinum Chrome roof rails and unique 19-inch Hyper Black aluminum wheels, giving the available three-row, seven-passenger crossover a rugged, capable look. The interior is loaded with premium finishes and features including standard leather seating with sport mesh inserts, Liquid Graphite appliques, an 8.4-inch Úconnect touchscreen and a power driver's seat and passenger fold flat seat with in-seat storage.

The available award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine delivers a best-in-class 283 horsepower, and Journey continues to deliver the latest and greatest in vehicle connectivity and customization with the Chrysler Group's Úconnect 8.4 infotainment system. Featuring an 8.4-inch touchscreen, standard keyless 'Enter n' Go' with push-button start and available heated steering wheel, Dodge Journey offers a slew of high-tech features at a price that is still affordable to families. With best-in-class storage space, available fold-flat seats, second-row in-floor storage and front-passenger 'Flip-N-Stow' in-seat storage, the Journey is a true utility infielder.

Journey Crossroad is also available with all-wheel-drive (AWD), featuring an on-demand system that provides added traction when needed, and enhanced fuel economy when not.

The 2015 Dodge Journey is available in American Value Package (AVP), SE, SXT, Crossroad, Limited and R/T trim levels, and is America's most affordable crossover with a starting Ú.S MSRP of $19,995 (excluding $995 destination).

Power and efficiency
The Journey AVP, SE, SXT and Crossroad are powered by a standard 2.4-liter 16-valve DOHC four-cylinder engine, which produces 173 horsepower and 166 lb.-ft. of torque, linked to a four-speed automatic transmission. (posted on conceptcarz.com) This four-cylinder engine delivers 26 miles per gallon (mpg) on the highway.

The award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine, optional on SXT and Crossroad and standard on Limited and R/T models and all-wheel drive (AWD) models, produces a best-in-class 283 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque and is mated to a smooth-shifting six-speed automatic transmission. (posted on conceptcarz.com) This Pentastar V-6 engine has been recognized as one of 'Ward's 10 Best Engines' for three years in a row. In addition to excellent power, it delivers up to 25 mpg on the highway.

With a five-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, owners can rest assured knowing their powerful and efficient Journey is well covered.

A work in craftsmanship and attention to detail
Dodge Journey offers levels of refinement not typically found in the crossover market. A beautifully crafted one-piece soft-touch instrument panel sets the tone. A standard Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) is positioned in the center of the gauge cluster, which has a full-color display backlit in Dodge red lights, giving it a soft glow unlike any in the segment. Integrated center stack bezels are sculpted, and designers softened the radius to make more room for the driver's knees. The cushioned center console armrest lifts to reveal a larger center storage bin with a 12-volt outlet and ÚSB port where owners can hook up their MP3/iPod charging connections and hide them out of sight.

The design team also worked to make the Journey's interior very comfortable. There's a large front storage bin with side nets and a multi-function three-spoke steering wheel with standard integrated cruise and radio controls.

Engineers also developed many treatments to reduce noise, vibration and harshness. One example is the Journey's dual dash silencer, which isolates the cabin, making for a nice, quiet ride.

The interior isn't just a nice place to be, it also offers best-in-class utility. Second-row and available third-row seats fold flat to create 67.6 cu. ft. of cargo space. Second-row seats recline and have available class-exclusive integrated child booster seats. Available third-row seating is a popular option that is available on all trim levels and not offered on most of Journey's competitors. There are also innovative removable storage bins in the floor ahead of the second-row seats, which can hold everything from muddy clothes to soda cans, and conceal valuables like a camera, laptop or purse. With fold-flat front passenger, second-row and third-row seats, second-row in-floor storage, and front passenger in-seat storage, Dodge Journey has best-in-class storage.

Journey also offers many standard features not commonly found in the segment, such as a standard 4.3-inch Úconnect touchscreen radio, power heated and fold-away mirrors, seven air bags, dual-zone climate control, illuminated cup holders, keyless Enter 'n Go with push-button start, steering wheel mounted audio and cruise controls and the class-exclusive second-row in-floor storage bins.

Owners will feel like they have the world at their fingertips with the Journey's Úconnect touchscreen command center. From navigation to voice-command music selections to the ability to check fuel prices, the Úconnect media center makes life in the Journey an excellent adventure for the driver and passengers. Four Úconnect models are available, all featuring easy-to-use controls and class-leading technology. With its touchscreen display and user-friendly, touch-key categories, connecting and controlling personal devices is simple, intuitive and customizable.

Safety is paramount
Multistage front passenger air bags, active head restraints, electronic stability control with all-speed traction control, electronic roll mitigation and Brake Assist, driver-side knee blocker air bag, side-curtain air bags covering all three rows, front seat-mounted side air bags, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, LATCH child seat anchor system and trailer-sway control are standard on all Dodge Journey models.

Confidence in any condition
The 2015 Dodge Journey's chassis architecture delivers a confidence-inspiring driving experience coupled with precise steering for maximum control. Strong torsional stiffness in the steering column intermediate shaft isolator, in conjunction with Journey's rear suspension geometry, delivers precise steering feel and a connected steering response. R/T's more aggressive suspension tuning gives a sportier ride and even greater handling precision for when the roads turn twisty.

Dodge Journey also offers all-wheel-drive capability, perfect for drivers who want some extra grip for a more performance feel, or who live in the Snow Belt or rainy parts of the country and appreciate the extra traction Journey's all-wheel-drive system provides. Journey's all-wheel-drive system works on demand, driving only the front wheels until power to the rear wheels is needed to maximize fuel efficiency. All-wheel drive also is used on dry pavement between speeds of 25 and 65 mph to enhance handling during performance driving. This system provides added traction on snow, ice and other low traction surfaces without having to be switched on and off.

When traveling faster than 25 mph, Dodge Journey's all-wheel-drive system sends torque to the rear wheels when cornering with the throttle open to make the car turn more easily, which makes the handling more neutral. This is more readily accomplished with Journey's electronically controlled coupling (ECC) than with viscous-coupling or gerotor systems that require some degree of front-to-rear slip before torque is transferred to the rear wheels. At speeds greater than 53 mph, the control
strategy provides minimal torque to the rear wheels under normal driving conditions to provide better fuel economy.

Dodge Journey features standard electronic stability control (ESC) and all-speed traction control, which help keep the crossover on path in a variety of road surface and weather conditions. Journey's available all-wheel drive electronic control module works with the ESC and traction control systems, allowing the ESC system to use the ECC to help gain control of the vehicle, reducing the amount of torque that the ECC transmits to the rear wheels. Four-wheel anti-lock brakes and electronic-roll mitigation also are standard on all 2015 Dodge Journey models.

A family mover with style
On the outside, Journey maintains its sculpted, clean, aggressive lines and front fascia that sports the signature Dodge brand 'split crosshair' grille. Journey SXT, Crossroad, Limited and R/T models feature a more aggressive lower front fascia and a rear fascia with integrated, dual bright exhaust tips (V-6 only). Crossroad also offers completely unique front and rear lower fascias. Bold 'ring of fire' LED tail lamps (SE, SXT, Crossroad Limited and R/T models) have a distinctive style out back, while 19-inch aluminum wheels, standard on Crossroad, Limited and R/T, provide a dramatic styling statement.

A mid-size crossover SUV, the Dodge Journey began its life as a 2009 model late in the 2008 year. Constructed by the Dodge division of Chrysler, the Journey was first debuted at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show and later at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. In March 2008 production versions of the 2009 model years cars went on sale in the US. Within automotive circles the Journey was dubbed the JC49. Derived from the Avenger sedan, the Journey offers minivan-like interior conveniences while comfortably seating up to seven passengers.

It featured a shorter wheelbase 113.8 inches than the Chrysler Pacifica, and shares an updated platform with the Dodge Avenger. The Journey had room for either five, or five + 2 passengers with four forward-hinged doors, and like early models of the Chrysler minivan, it was offered with a four-cylinder engine. Ryan Nagode was responsible for the exterior styling. The Journey is manufactured at the 220-acre Toluca Car Assembly in Toluca, Mexico on the same assembly line as the Fiat 500.

The base-model Journey SE was available only as front-wheel drive and came equipped with a 2.4L four-cylinder engine. From 2008 until 2010 the available trims in North America were the SE 2.4L 173 hp I4, the SXT 3.5L 235 hp V6, the SXT AWD 3.5L 235 hp V6, the R/T – 3.5L 235 hp V6 and the R/T AWD 3.5L 235 hp V6. Some of the features included an aluminum hood, composite plastic tailgate, rear doors that opened at a 90-degree angle, which made for easier entry and car seat installation. A third of the vehicle's body structure by weight was constructed of high-strength steel. Outside of the US, the Journey was marketed in both left hand and right-hand drive.

Other features included rear climate control vents and optional rear climate control panel, under the floor storage lockers behind the front seats, extra power outlets, interior child-view mirror, optional hard-drive based stereo/navigation/phone system, and optional booster seats for older children. Another unique feature of the Journey was theatre seating that featured the second row being quite a bit higher than the first row and a third row of foldaway 'occasional use' seats. The Journey got between 16-19 mpg in the city, and 23-25 mpg in the highway. In the US and Canada multi-stage front driver and passenger air bags were standard, along with front-seat mounted side air bags, three-row side-curtain air bags, electronic stability program, standard four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes, brake assist and electronic roll mitigation. Other available features were rollover sensing, traction control, a rear backup camera and tire pressure monitors.

For 2010 the Journey received active front head restraints added to its list of standard safety features. The following year the outside and the inside was updated. Five trim levels were now available beginning with the Express and ranging through the Mainstreet, Crew, R/T and the top trim being the LUX. New standard features this year were cargo tie-down loops, an in-floor storage bin and 12-volt auxiliary power outlets.

For 2011 numerous updates were made to the model that included revamping the grille, the inside of the car, the lower front fascia, suspension, steering, powertrain. It also showcased Dodge's brand new logo, which was introduced in 2010. Chrysler announced that it would no longer market the Journey in Europe as a Dodge model after the2011 model year. Instead they would market the model as Fiat Freemont, which was an Ulysse replacement. Today the Freemont continues to be manufactured in Mexico. At the Geneva Motor Show in 2011 the new Fiat Freemont was debuted. Fiat has chosen to no longer market Dodge and Chrysler in Europe, as all Dodges became Fiat vehicles and all Chryslers became Lancia vehicles.

The Journey fell into the category of being Dodge's smallest SUV for the 2012 model year once Nitro, the smaller but pricier counterpart, finished production. For this year Chrysler added the Dodge logo with two slanted rectangles instead of just showing the Dodge text.

In 2008 a Journey variation for the Chinese market was debuted at Auto China. Dubbed the JCUV, initial model production started in 2009. For the 2010 model year the model name was relocated to the right-end of the trunk lid and replaced by the brand emblem.

Chrysler rebadged the Journey as the Fiat Freemont in Europe after the 2011 model year. The Freemont continues to be manufactured in Mexico. The much larger Durango took the place of the Journey after 2011. At the 2011 Geneva Motor Show the new Fiat Freemont was debuted. At the close of May of 2011 the Freemont was launched in Italy. Featuring different suspension tuning and cosmetic changes in both the front and rear bumpers, the inside of the Freemont is completely different in comparison to the Journey.

Two front-wheel-drive turbo-diesel versions of the Freemont were the 140 PS and the 170 PS version of Fiat's 2.0 L Multi-jet turbo-diesel. An a new all-wheel-drive version of 170 PS diesel and the Pentastar V6 will be introduced eventually. In the beginning the Freemont was only available in LHD markets only. In April 2013 a RHD model was introduced to Australia. Both the Freemont and the Journey are available in Brazil and Australia. Though to make the market a bit more distinct for the two vehicles, only the 2.0 and 2.4L 4-cylinder engines are available in the Freemont, while the Journey is only sold with the Pentastar V6 engine.

In Japan the Dodge Journey is known Dodge JC because the name 'Journey' has already been used by Isuzu Motors. These models were qualified by the Japanese government to be included in Subsidy Scheme for Environmentally Friendly Vehicles.

Chrysler has announced that the Journey will get a second-generation modification for 2015. It will debut with the new mid-size sedan Avenger replacement dubbed 'Aspen'. Both of these models will be based on Fiat-derived prototypes.
