The 1989 BMW 3-Series was available as a 2- and 4-door sedan, and a convertible. Pricing began at $24,650 for the 325i and rose to nearly $35,000 for the M3. The 3-Series, except for the 325iC convertible, received new body-color bumpers that were shortened by nearly 5 1/2 inches. The base engine was now an overhead-cam six-cylinder unit that displaced 152 cubic-inches and offered nearly 170 horsepower. The M3 had a dual overhead cam six rated at 192 horsepower. A five-speed manual with overdrive was standard with an automatic available as optional equipment. The BMW 325iX was an all-wheel drive version while the other models had rear-wheel drive.
