1959 Panhard Dyna Z

Manufactured in France by one of the oldest automobile manufacturers in the world, the Dyna Z was revolutionary in that the first models featured extensive use of aluminum in the monocoque body, doors, hood, and trunk lid. With its aerodynamic lines and relatively light 1,800-pound weight, the car was said to be able to reach speeds upwards of 90 mph with a full complement of 6 passengers. Power is from an air-cooled two-cylinder 851cc engine offering 50 horsepower.

This car was originally owned by a man who also rallied Deutsch Bonnets, which used the same engine and transmission as the Dyna. The story goes that, when his DB blew its engine on a rally, the owner pulled the engine from this Dyna, then pushed the car into his New York basement, where it remained for over three decades. It was bought by a Panhard enthusiast in the mid-nineties who sourced an engine, then was acquired by the current owners in early 2006. New tires and brakes, a replacement transmission, and several minor repairs have made the car streetable once again, but it is still a work in progress. The 15,000 miles shown on the odometer are believed accurate. More recently, this car made an appearance in the 2008 Alan Rickman, Dennis Farina movie 'Bottle Shock.'
