1970 Abarth Scorpione SS

1970 Abarth Scorpione SS 1970 Abarth Scorpione SS 1970 Abarth Scorpione SS In the beginning, there was the Lombardi Grand Prix, a rear-engined sports car built around a Fiat 850 chassis that was in limited production from 1968-72. The design features a low nose with flip-up headlights and a Kammback tail. Abarth, an Italian sports car maker, was founded by Carlo Abarth (his astrological sign is Scorpio). The company's Mario Colucci developed the 100 horsepower Scorpione SS, an extensively re-engineered version of the Grand Prix with a larger engine, better suspension, all-wheel Girling disc brakes, and - with the hope of improving cooling - a front-mounted radiator. The car is powered by a 1280cc Fiat inline 4-cylinder engine equipped with twin Weber carburetors and a Fiat 4-speed synchromesh transmission. New, it had a top speed of 115 mph. Just 5 were built. After Fiat acquired Abarth in 1971, the Scorpione project was canceled.

The current, fourth owner acquired it in 2004 and commissioned a full restoration. In 2014, it was shown at The Quail.
