1959 Goggomobil T700

Micro-cars have always been a niche market. Some manufactures have found success in their production, while the majority of others have not. Hans Glas, a big manufacturer for agricultural machinery in Dingolfing (Lower Bavaria, West Germany) brought out his first car in 1955 to participate on the German micro car boom after WWII. The name of this midget sedan was Goggomobil. Glas produced three models on the Goggomobil platform - the Goggomobil T sedan, the Goggomobil TS coupe, and the Goggomobil TL van. Power was from an air-cooled, two stroke, two cylinder unit originally displacing 250 cc. The size was later increased to 300cc and 400cc. It had an electric pre-selective transmission built by Getrag and a manual clutch. The engine was located behind the rear wheels. In total, 214,313 sedans, 66,511 coupes, and 3,667 Transporter vans and pickups were built from 1955 to 1969.

The Goggomobil T700 was powered by a Glas 70 four-cycle, two-cylinder, air-cooled engine displacing 682cc and offering 30 horsepower. It was a 2-door sedan with seating for four passengers and had a top speed in the neighborhood of 80 mph.
