The Mazda MX-5 was released in 1989 as a lightweight two-seater roadster with a front-engine, rear-wheel drive layout. For 1997, the 2-door convertible received a new Touring Package that included alloy wheels, power steering, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, power windows, and mirrors. The base price was just over $19,000. Power was provided by a dual-overhead-cam four-cylinder engine displacing 110 cubic inches and offering 130 horsepower. Transmission options included a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic.
