1931 Studebaker Rigling Hunt Special

Between 1930 and 1937, the Indianapolis 500 was part of the 'stock-block' or 'two-man' era, the result of revisions to the AAA Contest Board rule book of 1929. Envisioned by Eddie Rickenbacker, the changes were meant to expand the field of entries and to make the sport less expensive. One of the changes was to increase the maximum displacement limit from 91 to 366 cubic inches and require cars to have a riding mechanic. These changes worked, as nearly half of the 1930 Indy 500 entries were built entirely from stock production parts.
