Supported by Volkswagen Group, the Alte Nationalgalerie in Berlin will be presenting an unique exhibition featuring more than 120 works of art inspired by the interpretation of wandering. The extensive show invites visitors to explore the cultural relevance of the encounter with nature and art. As part of the multi-year partnership with Nationalgalerie – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, this exhibition along with the comprehensive accompanying educational program is the third project supported by Volkswagen Group at Alte Nationalgalerie.

Outstanding works by Caspar David Friedrich, Karl Friedrich Schinkel, Richard Wilson, Iwan Kramskoi, Auguste Renoir, Emil Nolde, Otto Dix, Ernst Barlach and others will be on show from May 10 through September 16 2018. The paintings illustrate artistic reflections on the social value of wandering as a new nature searching and creative inspired form of mobility in the 19th century. This comprehensive exhibition at Alte Nationalgalerie will be addressing for the first time a theme describing the close ties between art and society.

'Wandering is mobility in its most original form, and we share the appreciation and enthusiasm for it. The associated pleasure of discovery, creative expression and ultimately innovation has fascinated artists. This is being extensively presented in the exhibition and wonderfully conveyed to the visitors' says Benita von Maltzahn, Director Global Corporate Citizenship, Volkswagen Group. 'We are pleased that the general public will encounter extraordinary art which has been brought from all over the world to Berlin.'

Udo Kittelmann, Director of Nationalgalerie – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, emphasizes: 'I am very grateful for Volkswagen's support. For several years now, they have been a trusted partner and an important enabler when it comes to the development of important exhibitions and educational initiatives. This support provides our cultural institution with creative freedom which otherwise would hardly exist to this extent.'

As partner of 'Wanderlust' Volkswagen Group furthermore supports wide-ranging educational offerings. Together with Nationalgalerie, Volkswagen has created a 'Mobile Studio', an education space that is used outside the museum location to introduce children and teenagers to artistic practices and foster creativity. The accompanying exhibition program will also include themed tours, guided exhibition tours in different languages, dedicated tours for visitors with seeing, hearing and mobility impairments and specifically conceived exhibition discovery tours for children and school classes. For the first time, impressions from the exhibition will be on display at one of the most prominent junctions in Berlin. At the corner Friedrichstraße / Unter den Linden DRIVE. Volkswagen Group Forum will turn its facade into an exhibition area.

The support of the exhibition strengthens the partnership between Volkswagen Group and Nationalgalerie – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin which exists since 2013, and which illustrates Volkswagen's commitment in making art accessible to a wide audience and bringing new creative formats to life. One of the most recent results is VOLKSWAGEN ART 4 ALL, a series of events that grants free entry to one of the world's most significant collections of contemporary art and educational programs, the Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart.
