Elwood Haynes was one of the pioneers of the American automobile. His 1893 partnership with the Apperson brothers produced an automobile the following year and the Haynes-Apperson Automobile Company was formed in 1898. They went their separate ways in the early 1900s, and the Haynes Automobiles Company was organized in 1905. Early Haynes automobiles featured several engineering advancements - shaft drive, a sliding gear transmission, and left-hand drive on certain models. Later, Haynes debuted one of the industry's first V-12 engines in 1916.
Like many low-volume manufacturers during this era, Haynes struggled as competition heated up. The Haynes Automobile Company declared bankruptcy in the fall of 1924 and the last Haynes automobiles were built in the first few months of 1925.Source - Studebaker Museum
