New season, new colours: The 2017 car designs of the Mercedes-AMG Motorsport DTM Team

Mercedes-AMG Motorsport DTM Team presents six car designs for the 2017 DTM
• Úniform design for all Mercedes-AMG Motorsport works teams with same design elements as of the start of the 2017 motor racing season

• What's known as 'digital flow' will be visible on the sides of all six DTM racing cars and be part of a common design both on and off the track

• Same basic look for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport DTM and Formula One cars

2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG C63 DTMNew rules, new cars and new designs. The Mercedes-AMG Motorsport DTM Team has presented its six new vehicle designs for the upcoming DTM season just in time for the start of the last round of testing before the season opener in early May.

The new design features 'digital flow' and can be seen on the sides of all the cars. All Mercedes-AMG Motorsport works teams will share this common design element as of this season.

Team captain Gary Paffett will line up this year in a silver Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM and Robert Wickens in an anthracite version, both sporting Petronas-green digital flow design elements on the sides of the car. Austrian driver Lucas Auer and newcomer Edoardo Mortara will join the hunt for points as the Pink Panthers in their two BWT Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM racing cars.

The cars of DTM returnee Maro Engel and 2010 DTM Champion Paul Di Resta will both have an orange digital flow. Engel will line up in the silver and anthracite SILBERPFEIL Energy Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM for 2017 while Di Resta will be in the white TV Spielfilm Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM.

This new design language is to be found not just on the racing cars driven by the six Mercedes-AMG Motorsport DTM drivers but will also feature on the driver's overalls, team trucks, pit walls and in many more places.

The basic design of the DTM cars will be the same this season as for the Formula One Silver Arrows of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas. The F1 W08 Hybrid EQ Power+ also features the distinctive electric blue airflow design from the front wing to the ends of the side pods. This distinguishing characteristic was taken from the ' electro' look of the Concept EQ launched last year.

Last test session before homologation of the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM

Mercedes-AMG DTM Team complete final tests before homologation of the new DTM cars on 1st March
• Three days of testing at Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimao (21st - 23rd February)

• Test drivers: Gary Paffett, Paul Di Resta and Edoardo Mortara

• Edoardo Mortara: 'Working with the engineers and my team-mates went well. We help each other out and are fully motivated.'

2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG C63 DTMThe clock is now ticking towards the homologation of the DTM cars for the 2017 season on 1st March. First, though, the Mercedes-AMG DTM Team were preoccupied with the opening test session of the new year this week (21st - 23rd February). It also constituted the last opportunity for trialling before the end of the homologation window. So there was a lot of testing to be done by the experienced DTM drivers and regular race-winners Gary Paffett, Paul Di Resta and Edoardo Mortara. Each of them spent one day in the cockpit of the Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM.

Team Captain Gary Paffett went first on Tuesday. 'It was good to be back in the car again after the winter,' said Gary, evidently satisfied with his first test outing of the year. 'We did a lot of kilometres, and we collected plenty of data on short runs and long runs. We looked at the tyres and also tried a few things on setup. It was a good first day, but I think that, as always, we still have a lot of work to do.'

Paffett put in a total of 159 laps at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve. On Wednesday, it was the turn of his team-mate Paul Di Resta behind the wheel of the Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM. 'It was fun to get a feel for the new generation of DTM cars,' said Paul, who completed 143 laps during the day. 'It's tough, but I got a good impression. The homologation deadline is getting closer and closer, so there was a lot for us to do this week. Hopefully we have a great package to go forward and fight for the championship.'

Edoardo Mortara concluded business on behalf of the team on the third and final day. For the Italian, it was a second outing in the Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM after his test debut at Jerez de la Frontera in December. 'It's always a nice feeling to get into the car for the first time in the new year,' said Edoardo after driving 146 laps during the day. 'There was a lot to do on the setup, and working with the engineers and my team-mates went well. We help each other out and are fully motivated. We're all pulling together, and I'm hopeful that we can be successful this year.'

Over the three-day visit to Portugal, the three Mercedes-AMG DTM drivers put in a grand total of 448 laps. Head of Mercedes-AMG DTM Úlrich Fritz was satisfied with the way the test week went: 'With the homologation deadline approaching fast, our objective was to put in as many kilometres as possible and once again to try new things. We managed to do that on all three days, completing more than 140 laps each time. Now it's important to draw the right conclusions from our findings and from the data we've collected.'& amp; amp; amp; lt; /p>

Despite the early homologation deadline of 1st March, the work for the team by no means stands still. On the contrary, preparations for the upcoming season and work in the factory at Affalterbach continue apace at this time of the year. And the next test sessions are due to take place soon: from 13th to 16th March, the DTM teams will be getting a run-out at Vallelunga in Italy. The final tests before the start of the season will be held during the week of 3rd - 6th April at Hockenheim.

Mammoth test programme for new Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM at Vallelunga

More than 2,100 kilometres of testing for the Mercedes-AMG Motorsport DTM Team during the year's second round of tests in Vallelunga
• Three days of testing at Vallelunga, Italy (14th - 16th March)

• Drivers at the wheel: Robert Wickens, Gary Paffett, Edoardo Mortara

• Gary Paffett: 'We posted more than 200 laps – pretty amazing. It was hard work, but we gathered a lot of valuable data.'

2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG C63 DTMPreparations for the new DTM season are in full swing. The Mercedes-AMG Motorsport DTM Team completed the second of three rounds of testing this week in Vallelunga, Italy (14th -16th March), in the run-up to the season opener at Hockenheim. Robert Wickens, Gary Paffett and Edoardo Mortara were at the wheel, and between them, the three DTM race winners posted 518 laps, equating to 2,116 km, of the Autodromo Vallelunga.

Robert Wickens kicked off the test week on Tuesday. 'That was quite a nice birthday present,' said the Canadian, who celebrated his 28th birthday on Monday 13th March. Posting 140 laps of the circuit put the biggest smile imaginable on his face to mark his special day as he gathered valuable information and data for the upcoming season. 'We had our own programme and are pretty happy with it. We managed to check off every box on our list'

Team captain Gary Paffett continued Robert's work on Wednesday with another productive day of testing but had to first familiarise himself with the 4.085-km circuit, on which he had never raced before. 'I like the track and got up to speed pretty quickly,' said Gary, who completed a mammoth day's testing. 'We did over 200 laps, which is pretty amazing. It was hard work, but we collected lots of useful data.' The programme included a mix of long and short runs. The main focus was on understanding the new tyres. 'It was a really good day,' said Gary, summing up.

On Thursday, Edoardo Mortara, the latest driver to join the squad, completed the week of testing in Italy. 'We posted lots of laps today and tried out many things,' said the Italian, who raced once or twice at Vallelunga in the early days of his career. 'We now need to analyse the data from Portimão and Vallelunga in order to be well prepared for the final round of testing in Hockenheim. The tests here were very informative, and I think we've taken a step in the right direction.'

The team can now draw on the data from more than 4,218 test kilometres after the first two weeks of testing in Portimão and Vallelunga. Head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport DTM Úlrich Fritz commented: 'The team have some very taxing weeks and months behind them, but their hard work has paid off so far with plenty of kilometres posted and data collected during two successful weeks of testing. Still, our work is far from over. We must now evaluate all the info, especially with regard to the new generation of tyres, and draw the right conclusions before final testing in Hockenheim.'& amp; lt; /p>

The team will continue with preparations for the new season at the factory in Affalterbach. While the final touches are being made to the programme for final week of testing in Hockenheim (3rd - 6th April), preparations are already under way for the season opener at the Hockenheimring, 5th - 7th May, by which time six cars plus spare parts need to have been made ready.
