Three of these racing voiturettes were built for the 1908 French Grand Prix held at Dieppe. The model was a milestone in automobile history because it was fitted with the world's first production 4-cylinder mono-block overhead-cam engine - and later that year an improved production car, the FE Non-Competizione, was put on sale. A total of 100 were built, including this Tipo A.

The FENC made its American debut at the New York Automobile Salon in January 1910, where this car was sold. Racing great and automotive historian Alec Ulmann described this car as 'a most classic of classics' and many books have featured it. Bob Rubin later acquired the car and had it restored in Italy using the original factory drawings and documents.
