2000 Jaguar XJ8

The all-new XJ6 (code named XJ40) was launched in October of 1986 as a replacement for Jaguars Series III cars. It featured an all-round independent suspension, power-assisted rack and pinion steering, four-wheel disc brakes and a good amount of sound deadening material. This new car proved to be more evolutionary than revolutionary, but was well received by the contemporary UK motoring press. By 1989, Jaguar had been purchased by Ford, and soon the engine offerings had been changed. Six years later, as the boxy lines of the XJ40 became dated, Jaguar tasked Geoff Lawson with providing a facelift. The X300 Series Xj6 was revised for the last time in 1997, at which point the six-cylinder engines were replaced with Bridgend-built V8 powerplants - and the XJ8 was born. Displacement options included a 3.2- and 4.0-liter selection with the 4.0-liter available with an optional supercharger. Power ranged from 240 bhp to 370 bhp.

The 2000 Jaguar XJ-Sedan was powered by either a 32-valve DOHC eight-cylinder aluminum engine or a supercharged version available on the XJR and Vanden Plas. Pricing began at $55,650 for the XJ8 sedan and rose to $80,650 for the Vanden Plas SC sedan. The XJR had a base price of $68,600.

For 2000, all XJ8 models were given traction control and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
