1981 AMC Concord

The AMC Concord was produced from 1977 through 1983. The compact car served as a replacement for the AMC Hornet and wore styling courtesy of Richard A. Teague.

The 1981 Concord was available as a 2- and 4-door sedan, and a station wagon. A total of 55,097 examples were built this year, with the most popular body style being the 4-door sedan. Both the 2-door and station wagon had similar sales figures, with just over 15,000 examples built for each body style.

The base engine was an overhead valve four-cylinder unit displacing 151 cubic-inches and offering 82 horsepower. A four-speed manual was standard with an optional column shift automatic available for an additional cost.

Changes for 1971 included restyled opera windows, a restyled grille using three vertical bars and five horizontal bars, and galvanized steel body panels. Using the galvanized steel helped improve the vehicle's rust protection.

Standard equipment included front and rear armrests, lighter, P195/75R14 blackwall radial tires with wheel covers, lighter, carpeting, bench seats, folding rear wagon seat, rear bumper guards, and moldings for drip rail, wheel lip, hood front edge, rocker panels, body bodyside scuff area, and windshield and rear window surrounds.

The DL models had stainless steel wheel covers, individual reclining seats, day/night mirror, cargo area skid strips, custom steering wheel, electric clock, front bumper guards, striping, dual horns, trunk carpeting, extra sound insulation, whitewall tires, and woodgrain wagon side panels. DL Sedans were given a vinyl landau roof. The two-door body styles had opera quarter windows.

The Limited trim level added light and visibility groups, luxury woodgrain steering wheel, and styled wheel covers. They also came with premium seat and door trims.

The Concord wagons could be purchased with an optional retractable cargo area cover.

An optional 258 CID overhead valve six-cylinder engine was available.
