2008 Coyote Corvette Daytona Prototype

The Coyote was a brand of racing chassis used by A.J. Foyt's race team from 1966 to 1983. In the mid-2000s, Foyt's fellow Indy 500 champion Eddie Cheever's was given permission to begin using the Coyote name for his Cheever Racing team for his new Daytona Prototype chassis. The chassis was derived from the Fabcar chassis design which he had purchased the rights to in 2007.

In 2012, Chevrolet returned to Daytona racing as a full constructor. Thus began the Corvette Daytona Prototype which raced in Grand-Am competition from 2012 through 2013. It then competed in the P class in the IMSA Tudor SportsCar Championship Series, which is now called the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The steel tube frame for the Corvette Daytona Prototype was built by Dallara, Coyote, or Riley Technologies. The engines were built by NASCAR engine builder ECR Engines. The engines were a 5.5-liter port-injected LS7 unit with individual throttle bodies and a dry-sump oil system. The transmissions were either an Xtrac 5 or an EMCO. In 2014, a 6-speed sequential manual was used.
