1912 Little Giant Model D

1912 Little Giant Model D 1912 Little Giant Model D 1912 Little Giant Model D Built by the Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. at its Franklin, Pennsylvania, factory, the company was well known for mining and industrial equipment in addition to the commercial chassis it built from 1911 to about 1917. Mechanically identical to trucks and delivery wagons, this is the only known bust extant of the seven Model D chassis remaining. Powered by a two-cylinder engine with two-speed planetary transmission and chain drive, it boasts a top speed of 20 mph. The chassis has a one-ton rating with an eight-passenger capacity - the body weighs about 800 pounds, which leaves about 130 pounds for each passenger - including luggage.

Like most commercial vehicles of its era, it rides on solid rubber tires. While its intended use was a jitney bus, its original route is unknown. It was largely restored by its owner, with the project completed in early 2014. The livery chosen reflects post offices near the home of its owner where a daily passenger route likely might have been.
