1914 Marathon Runner Series

The Marathon Motor Works manufactured automobiles from 1907 to 1914 and was founded by William H. Collier. They were originally made in Jackson, Tennessee, by Southern Motor Works and later brought to Nashville in 1910 due to their production growth and local investment potential. Its name was changed to Marathon Motor Works. Their line of vehicles was a medium-priced automobile powered by four-cylinder engines in several different horsepower ratings and chassis lengths.

The 1911 Marathon had a 116-inch wheelbase and was available as a touring, roadster, torpedo roadster, and Fore-Door tourer. Additionally, a 120-inch wheelbase version was available for the Torpedo Tourer.

For 1912, the Marathon could be purchased with either a 20-, 30-, 35-, or 45-horsepower engine. The 20 horsepower was found in the K-20, which came as a 90-inch wheelbase roadster or a larger 96-inch wheelbase Fore-Door Roadster. The 30-horsepower engine was founded in the Model L-30 with a 116-inch platform and available as a Torpedo Roadster or a Fore-Door touring body style. The 35-horsepower engine was placed in the Model M-40 and had a 120-inch wheelbase. The 45 horsepower powered the largest model - the Model N-50 - measuring 123.5-inch wheelbase. Body styles included a limousine, roadster, and Fore-Door Tourer.

Three engines and three-wheelbase sizes were available in 1913. The Runner Series had 25 horsepower and a 104-inch wheelbase. The Winner Series had a 35 horsepower and 116-inch wheelbase. The largest was the Champion Series which was powered by a 45 horsepower engine and had a 123-inch wheelbase.

For the final year of production, the Marathon could be purchased as a 25-horsepower Runner Series, a 35-horsepower Winner Series, and a 45-horsepower Champion series.

Currently, there are only eight known examples that exist in the world due to melting metals for war and old ways of discarding.
