1971 Mercedes-Benz 250 Series

The Mercedes-Benz W114 Coupe was a new range of cars for the company that was unlike anything else on offer. Designer Paul Bracq penned an uncluttered and pure motorcar that did not borrow any previous elements from the standard 180 from the 1950's. The roofline and seats were lowered to preserve adequate headroom. All four windows were capable of being wound down completely out of sight. The pillars were removed. The engine was a 2.5-liter engine fitted with a Bosch Jetronic fuel injection system helping to deliver nearly 150 horsepower.

For 1971, the Mercedes-Benz 250 Series was comprised of a sedan and a coupe, with the sedan having a $6,400 base price. The overhead-cam six-cylinder engine displaced 169.5 cubic-inches and delivered 157 horsepower. They had an automatic standard, a recirculating ball steering setup, and disc brakes at all four corners.

The biggest difference between the 1970 and 1971 250 Series was the price increase, which rose by approximately $1,000. Mercedes-Benz sold roughly $29,100 vehicles in 1970, followed by 35,192 in 1971.
