Toyota wanted to prove they were capable of producing more than just economical cars. With design inspiration from Jeep and Land Rover utility vehicles, Toyota introduced the FJ40 in 1960. It would remain in production in its many configurations and sizes (including the short J40/41/42, medium J43/44/46, and long J45/47 wheelbase versions) for a quarter-century. These versatile vehicles had a range of body styles, mechanical configurations, and engine options including diesel and engine. They had a long and successful history of reliable service on the most rugged of conditions.
