DAVID PIPER JOINS AMELIA'S MERCHANTS OF SPEED SEMINAR

Company press release.

DAVID PIPER JOINS AMELIA'S MERCHANTS OF SPEED SEMINARFamous English privateer David Piper will join the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance Merchants of Speed Seminar on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in the Talbot Ballroom of the Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island.

Piper graciously agreed to join the seminar panel after McLaren's Tyler Alexander fell ill in February, just after the Merchants of Speed Seminar's panel was announced.

David Piper brings a unique perspective to the Merchants of Speed Seminar as the only privateer entrant on the panel. His 'BP Green' Ferraris and Porsches were a staple of World Championship Endurance racing in the 1960s and 1970s.

Piper's business skills were equal, if not superior, to his on-track talents, as he ran his motorsport 'hobby' as a successful business since his first major victory in the Leinster Trophy in Ireland in 1955.

While he has logged a pair of World Championship Formula 1 starts and competed with noted success in the 1960 Tasman Series for Formula 1 cars, he is best known for his exploits and successes in long distance sports car endurance racing with his Ferrari GTO, 365P2, 250LM and Porsche 917. Winner of the Paris 1000 Km at Montlhery and the Angola Grand Prix, Piper is also known as the six-time winner of the Kyalami 9-Hours. His lengthy resume touches motorsport success on nearly every continent.

In 1969, he joined Scuderia Ferrari for World Championship races in a 312P. In 1970, Piper lost a portion of his leg in an accident while filming Steve McQueen's feature film Le Mans.

Piper continues to compete in major international historic events with his BP Green, also known as 'Piper Green,' Porsche 917K. He is a fixture at Le Mans Classic and British vintage and historic race weekends.

Piper remains one of those extraordinarily rare racers who have been able to mix business with pleasure successfully.
