MAZDA STATEMENT ON SAFETY RECALL OF CERTAIN MAZDA6 VEHICLES

May 29, 2014 by Mazda

Mazda is recalling certain 2014 MY Mazda6 vehicles produced between October 25, 2012, through May 9, 2013. This recall involves 18,592 vehicles.

On certain 2014 Mazda6 vehicles, it is possible to refuel beyond the fuel tank capacity. If over-fueling is followed by a large temperature change, the fuel volume may expand and potentially enter the charcoal canister. With this condition, the malfunction indicator light may illuminate, and if the fuel exceeds the canister capacity, fuel leakage could occur.

Mazda dealers will install an adapter in the fuel tank to reduce the possibility of overfilling during refueling. The canister will be inspected and replaced if necessary. In addition, an addendum containing a caution about overfilling the fuel tank will be sent to affected customers to be attached to their Owner's Manual.

No incidents of fire or injuries have been reported.

Customers and Mazda dealers will be notified in May.
