The Toyota FJ40 series Land Cruiser helped build and cement the Japanese automaker's reputation for reliability and ruggedness.
This particular Soft-Top example was purchased from Toyota's first U.S. dealership to sell the Land Cruiser, Hil Probert in Larkspur, California. Years later, it was discovered in Sacramento where it most likely sat for decades.
This soft-top bodystyle is considered one of the rarest versions of the Land Cruiser range. It was recently given a comprehensive restoration. It currently wears its factory-original Volcanic Beige exterior and waxed cotton-canvas roof. It had vinyl seats, front and rear live axles with semi-elliptical springs, a 4.2-liter inline six-cylinder engine, and a four-speed manual transmission.
After the restoration, this FJ40 was shown at the 2013 Forest Grove Concours d'Elegance where it won Best in Class honors.
The current caretaker acquired this Land Cruiser three years ago, and has since changed out the steering box, installed front and rear seat belts, had a new brake proportioning valve installed, and fitted new original size tires.By Daniel Vaughan | Apr 2018
