Porsche re-introduced the Speedster nameplate in 1989 as a one-year-only model. The classic 356 Speedster elements were penned by stylist Tony Lapine. The windscreen was shortened and raked back an additional five degrees, and an unlined manual soft top was added. The top could be lowered and stowed beneath a double-humped fiberglass cover. Most of the examples built were given the Turbo-style coachwork and featured upgraded suspensions and brakes. In total, just over 2,100 examples of the new Speedster were manufactured, with just 800 of those delivered to the United States.
This particular example is a low-mileage example that is finished in Grand Prix White with a hand-stitched leather interior. It has less than 3,800 miles on the odometer. The car was delivered new to George Follmer Porsche in Montclair, California and sold to Richard and Linda Daniel. In 2013, it entered the Jerry Seinfeld collection with approximately 3,400 miles on the odometer.
This Speedster has options that include a limited-slip differential, electric sports seats, Blaupunkt Reno cassette player, and a luggage compartment in place of the rear seats. It is not equipped with the optional air-conditioning, which reduces weight and improves the aesthetics of the engine compartment.
