This 1970 Ferrari 365GT 2+2 Berlinetta was offered for sale at the 2006 Bonhams & Butterfields auction held at the Quail Lodge in Carmel, California where it was estimated to sell between $80,000 - $100,000. It is a matching numbers 365GT 2+2 which has been cosmetically restored, including paintwork and interior, during the early 2000s. Since then, it has been treated to a complete mechanical refurbishment to include engine, brakes, and transmission. The car has spent its entire life in the United States..
The 330GT 2+2 was introduced in January of 1964 and featured a steel tube chassis that had grown in length by two-inches over its predecessor, the 250GTE. Four-seater Ferrari's had grown in popularity during the mid-1960s, accounting for 50-percent of all Ferraris produced during that time. The 330 had an independent front suspension and a live rear axle. The coachwork was handled by the legendary firm, Pininfarina. Power came from a 4-liter twelve-cylinder engine that produced an impressive 300 horsepower. The gearbox was a four-speed unit with overdrive.
The 365GT 2+2 made its debut at the Paris Salon in 1967. Design cues were borrowed from the limited edition 500 Superfast and based on the contemporary 330GTC. The 365GT produced 320 horsepower from the 4.4-liter engine. Zero-to-sixty took only seven seconds with top speed being achieved at 150 mph. There were a total of 800 examples produced, with production concluding in 1971.
