When Ferrari introduced the all-new F40 in 1987, it took the supercar world by storm. The F40 Berlinetta was built to celebrate 40 years of automobiles carrying the Ferrari name. When introduced, it was said that a mere 400 would be built.
Factory data states 0-200 km/h (124 mph) in 12.0 seconds. The standing kilometer, which is just beyond a good honest English 0.62 mile, is said to come up in 21.0 seconds at 168 miles per hour.
The F40 was the last Ferrari automobile personally approved by Enzo Ferrari. At the time, it was Ferrari's fastest, most powerful, and most expensive car. A base price of approximately $400,000 was announced, but many sold for considerably more. Production would end in 1992 with a total of 1,311 built, with 213 destined for the United States.
