MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS TAKES POLL POSITION AT LEUKAEMIA & LYMPHOMA RESEARCH BLENHEIM PALACE TRIATHLON
June 15, 2015 by Mercedes-BenzMERCEDES AMG PETRONAS, Red Bull and Force India Formula One Teams Took Part in the Sell-out Oxfordshire Event Today, Sunday 14th June 2015, 7,000 triathletes took part in the Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research Blenheim Palace Triathlon, including relay entrants from three Formula One teams. Situated just 25 miles from the iconic Silverstone Circuit, in an area known as 'Motorsport Valley', the World Heritage Site saw relay teams from MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS, Red Bull and Force India battle it out to become Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research Blenheim Palace Triathlon F1 Relay Champions. From engineers to fabricators, trimmers to accountants, each F1 team had three relay teams representing them on race day. Setting off in the 10:55 wave, competitiveness and team rivalry were visible from the start with each team wanting to best their opponents, spurring on their teammates as they commenced the swim. First out of the water was MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS, with Senior Systems Engineer from Oxford, Matthew Storry, passing over the triathlon baton to his eager team back in transition. Moving onto the bike section, it was Force India A's Kevin Dunkley who was first to finish, taking on the course in just 32mins48secs, over 30secs ahead of his opponents. With a clear head start for Antonia Fischer coming onto the run, Force India A sealed their victory with an incredible 1min10secs ahead of MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS A and the rest of the competitors. Antonio Fischer team captain of Force India A and Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research Blenheim Palace Triathlon F1 Champions, enthused: 'I am very proud of everyone, the boys did a great job and set me up well. That then made it easy to bring it home. Being so competitive we expected to finish high but it is still really exciting.' Red Bull also took the 'Championship Title', with 2 teams in the top five giving them a total of 35 points.

Of the day Andi Scott of Red Bull commented: 'Today worked out perfectly. It is a great venue and the event is something a bit different for us. It is nice for everyone to get some acknowledgment not just our race teams. Paul McEvoy from Force India C added: 'It has been a great day. I want to come back and do the full course next year. We have a Force India colleague who is a Weekend Warrior who has been a great inspiration and has still beaten all of us even during his 7 triathlons!'
