For 1977, the Dodge Monaco replaced the Coronet which had disappeared from the model lineup. It had the same wheelbase as the Coronet, measuring 115 inches for the two-door body styles and 117.5-inches for the four-door sedans. The base Monaco consisted of a 2-door hardtop coupe, sedan, and a 6- or 9-passenger station wagon. The Monaco Brougham was available as a hardtop coupe or sedan. Station Wagons were available in the Crestwood trim level and a hardtop coupe in the Monaco Special trim level. The Monaco had stacked quad headlamps, and a split grille with two side-by-side inserts, separated by a vertical divider. The parking lights were positioned within the bumper, below the headlamps. 'Monaco' script could be found on the front fenders. There were small side marker lenses and small wraparound tail lamps. Standard equipment included simulated woodgrain instrument panel accents and power brakes.
