CHEVROLET TAHOE PPV PREPARES FOR DUTY

Chevrolet today announced a police patrol vehicle, or PPV, version of the all-new 2015 Tahoe. The Tahoe lineup will expand with the addition of an automatic 4WD pursuit vehicle to the existing 2WD pursuit and 4WD special service models. The new Tahoe PPV offers more power, greater efficiency and enhanced features developed for law enforcement.

The 2015 Tahoe PPV features an all-new interior, exterior and EcoTec3 powertrain, while offering the same basic dimensions, sturdy body-on-frame architecture and versatility that made it the best-selling Chevrolet police vehicle for the last several years.

The carryover dimensions allow a seamless transfer of law enforcement equipment used in current Tahoe PPVs. The Tahoe will remain the largest police vehicle on the market designed with driver comfort in mind. It has additional space in the rear seat, which provides more leg room and easier access to individuals and equipment in the back seat.

The Tahoe PPV is used today by state and local municipalities and federal government officials for patrol, first response, tactical, HAZMAT, Border Patrol and K9.

More power and greater efficiency
The Tahoe PPV's standard EcoTec3 5.3L V-8 features state-of-the-art technologies, including direct injection, cylinder deactivation, continuously variable valve timing and an advanced combustion system, designed to make the most of power, torque and efficiency across a broad range of operating conditions.

With the EcoTec3 powertrain, the 2015 Tahoe PPV offers more power, 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque and improved acceleration.

The engine is mated to a Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission with a unique police-service calibration that supports pursuit performance.

Designed for law enforcement use

Still the only body-on-frame full-size SÚV designed for the rigors of police work, the Tahoe offers full-pursuit capability. The addition of more high-strength steel, increased body stiffness, suspension improvements and a wider track for increased stability helps the 2015 Tahoe PPV offers improved ride and handling designed for pursuit.

The Tahoe has a standard 730-CCA Auxiliary Battery, which allows officers to power their equipment, including radios, video cameras and laptops, when the vehicle is not running, avoiding drain on the primary vehicle battery. The vehicle also has a 110V power outlet and ÚSB input.

Key components remain that contribute to the Tahoe PPV's consistent performance at police vehicle testing:
◾V-rated, P265/60R17 Goodyear RSA tires, mounted on 17-inch steel wheels
◾Heavy-duty four-wheel-disc brakes with ABS, tuned for police driving
◾StabiliTrak electronic stability control system with Proactive Roll Avoidance and traction control

Safe and comfortable


The redesigned interior gives officers 360 degrees of safety with new standard features, including rear park assist, backup camera and optional adjustable pedals, which personalize the vehicle to each driver. An optional Driver Alert Package includes lane departure warning, forward collision alert and Chevrolet's Safety Alert seat.

Increased use of high-strength steel contributes to a safer, quieter ride. New inlaid doors help make it the quietest Tahoe and Tahoe PPV ever. The quiet environment decreases unnecessary distractions, allows police officers to remain focused on the road and can help reduce fatigue after long shifts.

OnStar, the leading provider of connected safety, security and mobility solutions and advanced information technology, is now standard on the Tahoe PPV, OnStar provides automatic crash notification, stolen vehicle slowdown and recovery. The vehicle also comes standard with Bluetooth, which allows officers to stay connected safely and talk hands-free while on the road.

The security of the Tahoe PPV has enhanced security features, including new door locks, side-milled keys and a steering column lock.

The new Tahoe will be built at GM's Arlington, Texas assembly plant. The 2WD pursuit and 4WD special service models will be available for order in the first quarter and the 4WD pursuit vehicle in the second quarter of 2014.

2013 CHEVROLET TAHOE POLICE DELIVERS MORE ROOM, GREAT PERFORMANCE

The Chevrolet Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) was the first SÚV designed from its inception as a law enforcement vehicle. It is ideal for standard patrol, HAZMAT, K9, medical first responder and tactical operations. It joins the Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle, Impala Police Vehicle, Chevrolet Tahoe Special Service and Chevrolet Express Prisoner Transport Van in Chevrolet's lineup of law enforcement vehicles.
The 2WD Chevrolet Tahoe PPV has a number of features that sets it apart from its civilian counterpart. Tahoe PPV is lower to the ground, delivering improved handling, especially at high speeds. The front and rear suspensions feature stiffer springs and shocks, and there's also a stiffer jounce bumper more ideally suited for police loads.




To support the high speeds sometimes required by law enforcement pursuit vehicles, the Tahoe PPV wears V-rated, P265/60R17 blackwall Goodyear RSA steel belt radial tires, mounted on 17-inch, steel wheels. Tahoe PPV also receives heavy-duty cooling – thanks to a higher capacity radiator and engine oil cooler – and heavy-duty brakes with ABS. StabiliTrak electronic stability control system with Proactive Roll Avoidance and traction control is standard. The system also incorporates electronic trailer sway control and hill start assist.

For underbody protection, Tahoe PPV features a Skid Plate Package that includes a front underbody shield that starts behind the front bumper and runs to the first cross-member. The Skid Plate Package protects such vital vehicle components as the oil pan and other drivetrain parts.



For 2013, the capabilities of the Tahoe PPV are greater, with a higher GVWR of 6,800 pounds (3,084 kg) and higher payload of 1,500 pounds (680 kg).
Two new exterior colors are available for 2013: Champagne Silver Metallic and Blue Ray Metallic (late availability).

Tahoe Police performance
Tahoe Police is an SÚV that offers acceleration and braking performance comparable to many police cars. During Michigan State Police's annual benchmark evaluation of police vehicles (2012 models), the Tahoe turned in the following performance numbers:
• 0-60 acceleration of 8.01 seconds
• 0-100 acceleration of 21.08 seconds
• Top speed of 139 mph
• 60-0 stopping distance of 133.8 feet (40.8 m)

Tahoe interior standard and available features
With its second-row seats fully upright, Tahoe PPV delivers 60.3 cubic feet (1,708 liters) of cargo capacity for such items as gun cases, hazardous materials equipment and other gear and materials that law enforcement officers may require to perform their tasks. The second-row seats may be individually folded forward, adding even more cargo capacity. Tahoe PPV delivers 108.9 cubic feet (3,084 liters) of cargo capacity.

• AM/FM stereo with CD and MP3 playback compatibility is standard
• Cruise control is standard
• Inoperative inside rear door handles, door locks and windows are available
• 100-amp main power supply wiring at the instrument panel and cargo area is standard

Tahoe PPV powertrain
The Tahoe PPV is powered by the Vortec 5.3L V-8 that balances power and efficiency. Variable valve timing helps the 5.3L optimize performance, efficiency and emissions, while GM's Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivating technology helps improve fuel economy in certain light-load driving conditions. The variable valve timing system allows linear delivery of torque, with near-peak levels over a broad rpm range, and high specific output (horsepower per liter of displacement). It also helps reduce exhaust emissions. Because it manages valve overlap at optimum levels, it eliminates the need for an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system.

GM's Active Fuel Management technology increases fuel economy approximately 6 percent under the federal government's required testing procedure and potentially more in certain real-world driving conditions. AFM temporarily deactivates four of the engine's cylinders under light load conditions and seamlessly reactivates them when full power is required. The transition takes less than 20 milliseconds and is virtually indiscernible.

E85 is a clean-burning, domestically produced alternative fuel composed of 85 percent ethanol alcohol and 15 percent gasoline. Ethanol is renewable and produces fewer greenhouse gases during the combustion process.

Tahoe PPV chassis and suspension
The Tahoe is built on GM's full-size SÚV platform, incorporating a fully boxed frame, coil-over-shock front suspension, multi-link with coil springs rear suspension and rack-and-pinion steering. The stiff frame reduces vibrations transmitted to the passenger cabin, while the strength and accuracy of the fully boxed frame also enable precise mounting and tuning of chassis and suspension components.

Wide front and rear tracks – 68.2 inches (1,732 mm) front/67 inches (1,702 mm) rear – enhance handling and vehicle stability for a more confident road feel. A heavy-duty four-wheel disc brake system is standard.

• 3.08 axle ratio
• A locking rear differential is available
• A Skid Plate Package that includes a front underbody shield that starts behind the front bumper and runs to the first cross-member. It protects the oil pan and other underbody/chassis components.

Tahoe PPV safety and crash avoidance features
Chevrolet Tahoe has a strong body structure that is designed to absorb crash energy and provide a protective 'safety cage' around occupants. Head curtain side air bags with rollover protection for both seating rows are standard, as are seat-mounted side-impact air bags for driver and right-front passenger that provide thorax and pelvic protection. The roof-mounted head curtain air bags include design features that provide increased rollover protection and occupant containment.

Additional safety features include:
• Standard StabiliTrak electronic stability control system helps reduce the risk of rollover crashes by keeping the vehicle in the driver's intended path by applying throttle, braking or a combination of both
• Standard four-wheel-disc brake system with ABS featuring smooth, quiet operation, longer pad life and more resistance to brake pulsation
• Pretensioners minimize forward movement during a collision and are standard on the front safety belts. Load-limiting retractors cinch the belt more tightly
• Standard tire pressure monitoring system.
