1986 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham

Cadillac models favored front-wheel drive by 1986, with the Fleetwood Brougham clinging to traditional rear-wheel drive configuration. It was a luxurious four-door sedan with a base price of $21,265, which was approximately $5,000 less than the Seville sedan, $8,000 higher than the Cimarron sedan, and about $1,000 higher than the DeVille sedan. Its wheelbase size of 121.5 inches was bested only by the Fleetwood Limousines 134.4-inch platform (DeVille: 110 inches, Eldorado and Seville: 108 inches; and Cimarron: 101.2 inches). It had the largest engine in the lineup with a displacement size of 5.0 liters (Seville, DeVille, Fleetwood, and Eldorado: 4.1 liters). The V8 engine was sourced from Oldsmobile and paired with a four-speed overdrive automatic transmission. The engine had a cast iron block, overhead valves, hydraulic valve lifters, five main bearings, and a four-barrel carburetor. It produced 140 horsepower at 3,200 RPM and 346 (net) torque at 2,000 RPM.

As the 1985 model year was coming to a close, sales of the Fleetwood Brougham Coupe continued. Sales of the coupe continued into the 1986 model, but was dropped with the arrival of the sedan in February 1986.

A dozen standard exterior colors of the Fleetwood Brougham were offered, plus five optional Firemist paint schemes. It had a full-length vinyl roof and a limousine-like closed-in rear window.

Cadillac produced 49,115 examples of the Fleetwood Brougham in 1986, a decrease from the 61,296 examples produced the previous year.

Production of the Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham began in 1977 and would continue through 1986. Cadillac revised its model lineup for 1987, with the D-body Fleetwood Brougham being renamed the Cadillac Brougham to avoid confusion with the smaller front-wheel drive Fleetwood which had been introduced in 1985. The Brougham was built through 1992, and following restyling, it was rebranded as the Cadillac Fleetwood for 1993.
