British Music & Cars Invade Village of Pinehurst

VILLAGE OF PINEHURST, N.C. (March 26, 2014) – To commemorate the 50th anniversary of The Beatles arriving in America and the elegance of classic British automobiles, the 2014 Pinehurst Concours d'Elegance will stage a 'British Invasion' concert in the Village of Pinehurst on May 3.

The event begins at 4 p.m. in the Tufts Memorial Park (also known as the Village Green), with the Beatles cover band 'Let It Be' performing at approximately 5:30 p.m. The concert is a prelude to the May 4 Pinehurst Concours staging of more than $100 million worth of vintage autos on the pristine fairways of Pinehurst Resort.

The concert is free of charge to the general public, with an opportunity to purchase tickets on site for Sunday's showcase of 119 vintage cars, which will be judged in 12 classes. The inaugural winner of Best In Show at the 2013 Pinehurst Concours was a rare 1938 Steyr Roadster – one of only six ever made.

In addition to the free concert, the Saturday evening event will be an opportunity for car buffs to see British Auto Touring Society makes such as Aston Martin, Austin-Healey, Bentley, Jaguar, Lotus and MG and others and parked adjacent to the concert venue.

'Concours events often focus on the anniversary of a particular marque, as we are doing with 50 years of the Ford Mustang and Porsche Turbo's 40th Anniversary,' said Pinehurst Concours President Jay Howard. 'But when you think of 1964, many people quickly go back to those incredible talents blowing up the American Music scene with a memorable performance on the Ed Sullivan Show. We are excited to blend these anniversaries into a celebration that will be remembered for a long time in Pinehurst.'

'I vividly recall when the Beatles invaded the U.S. and appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show,' added Village of Pinehurst Mayor Nancy Fiorillo. 'I and my fellow teens were in awe of these musicians with their British accents and unique rock and roll style. What a thrill to have this fabulous concert here 50 years later.'

Award-winning BBQ, Italian sausage, burgers, hot dogs, popcorn, ice cream and more will be available for purchase at the concert, in addition to beer, wine, water and soft drinks.

The 2014 Pinehurst Concours will kick off a celebrated six-week period at one of the world's top golf resorts, which hosts the 2014 United States Open and United States Women's Open Championships in consecutive weeks in mid June.
