1939 Chrysler Custom Imperial news, pictures, and information

Convertible Sedan
Coachwork: Derham
Chassis Num: C241178

Sold for $192,500 at 2010 Gooding & Company.
For 1939, the Customer Imperial Series C-24 was given the same basic trim features as the C-23 Imperials. Where the C-23 had a 125-inch wheelbase, the C-24 rested comfortably on a longer 144 inch platform. Power was from a L-head eight-cylinder engine capable of producing over 130 horsepower. They had a three-speed Fluid Drive gearbox and Lockheed four-wheel hydraulic brakes. Other differences between the C-23 included nicer interior appointments, larger tires and standard full wheel discs.

The coachbuilder Derham was tasked at building three unique cars on the C-24 platform. These included a Convertible Sedan, a Convertible Town Car, and a seven-passenger Touring Phaeton.

This example is a one-off coachbuilt Custom Imperial wearing coachwork by Derham.

In 2010, this car was offered for sale at Gooding & Company's Scottsdale Auction in Arizona. It was estimated to sell for $225,000 - $300,000. The lot was sold for the sum of $192,500, inclusive of buyer's premium.
