Worldwide Auctioneers' Scottsdale debut helps grow the market out in Arizona

Final results are in for Worldwide's inaugural Scottsdale sale, confirming significant success for the auction company's Arizona debut. 82 exceptional hand picked cars went under the hammer, with total sales of $11.5 million and 79% of consignments finding new homes. 'Starting the year with an Arizona sale had long been part of our plans and we felt the time was right to introduce a fresh and exciting sale to the mix,' said Rod Egan, Principal & Auctioneer. Worldwide's Scottsdale Auction took place on the evening of Wednesday January 18, effectively kicking off the week's round of catalogue sales. High sale went to an outstanding 1967 Chevrolet Corvette L-88 Roadster which realized $1.98 million - 'race-bred, extremely rare, expertly restored and simply put, one of the finest and most significant L-88 Corvettes in existence today,' said John Kruse, Principal of Worldwide. Headlining the sale was a stunning and impeccably documented 1955 Lancia Aurelia B24S Spider America that hammered sold for $1.1million. Beatle John Lennon's personal 1965 Mercedes-Benz 230SL was another star of the show, selling for $247,500 after eighteen years on display in a Florida museum. A storied 1961 'farm-find' Aston Martin DB4, uncovered after an astonishing 45 years in the woods and presented for sale as found, was one of the week's most talked- about cars, attracting global attention and a final sales figure of $374,000. Worldwide Auctioneers was also proud to be part of the Arizona Concours d'Elegance NEXTGEN AutoFest powered by Hagerty, a three-day festival encouraging the younger generation to learn about and enjoy collector vehicles. The festival shared its location with Worldwide on Friday January 13. Principal John Kruse presented the basics of the automotive auction industry, discussed valuation and appreciation of classic cars and engaged the students in a lively mock sale onsite, featuring a line-up of Brooklin® Model Cars.

Next stop for the team at Worldwide is the Texas Classic Auction (formerly the Houston Classic Auction), scheduled for Saturday, April 22nd at its new location at the Arlington Convention Center, just outside Dallas, Texas. Running in conjunction with the sale is the no reserve Monical Collection Auction on Friday April 21st and the Concours d'Elegance of Texas on Sunday April 23rd, now in its sixth year.
