1911 Inter-State Model Forty 1911 Inter-State Model Forty 1911 Inter-State Model Forty In October 1908, Thomas Hart of Muncie, Indiana, announced that, as a result of a naming contest, his new car would be called the Inter-State. The new set of cars, the Inter-State Forty, came in three models, 30, 31 and 32, indicating three different body styles all built on the same chassis. This 31-A is the demi-tonneau or short-coupled body with the rear seat built just above the rear axle, seating four passengers. The car has a 4-cylinder, 40 horsepower engine on a 118-inch wheelbase chassis and was one of the best and most luxurious cars available for the price of $1,750.
