London, 16th September 2015 A one-off piece of artwork, created by world-renowned motoring artist Tim Layzell for Classic & Sports Car – The London Show, is being auctioned in support of the event's chosen charity, WeSeeHope.

All proceeds from the auction, run by Silverstone Auctions, will go to WeSeeHope, a charity which supports vulnerable young people in sub-Saharan Africa. WeSeeHope is the official charity for the first-ever Classic & Sports Car – The London Show and the auction is just one of the ways the event is supporting the organisation.

The bespoke artwork – which anyone can bid on by heading to http://bit.ly/1F0BQ05 – depicts three legendary British cars, a Jaguar E-type, Bentley Speed Six and McLaren F1, at the show's home of Alexandra Palace. These cars, together with seven others, have been the subject of a global poll to name the Best British Car Ever. All ten will be at Alexandra Palace with the winner being named at the show.

Painted in Layzell's signature style, the striking poster has been reproduced and used across all marketing and promotional material for the show – but the auction will feature the original, one-off artwork.

James Elliott, Classic & Sports Car magazine group editor, said: 'We're very pleased indeed that the first Classic & Sports Car – The London Show will be supporting such an important cause. Through this silent auction, and the event itself, we hope to raise significant funds for WeSeeHope, helping the charity to continue its amazing work with children and young adults affected by HIV and AIDS.'

WeSeeHope

WeSeeHope supports children who have been given the toughest of tough starts. In communities ground down by poverty and AIDS, a generation of young people are growing up without parents to nurture and protect them. Yet many show extraordinary spirit, resilience and talent. We see that, given the opportunity, they have the potential to change Africa's future.

WeSeeHope works with local, African project partners, enabling communities to find the best ways of supporting the most vulnerable children through:

◾Emotional and social support

◾Education

◾Economic empowerment

◾Child rights

WeSeeHope's project partners are selected and monitored by the teams in the UK and Tanzania, who work closely with each partner. In 2015 they are proudly working with 19 project partners, in 219 communities, reaching more than 50,000 vulnerable children across sub-Saharan Africa. The charity landscape is blurred with organisations helping vulnerable children in Africa. WeSeeHope is defined by:

◾Productive partnerships: they help their project partners generate income or access grants. They help companies make CSR more meaningful. They help schools enrich curricula. They help people connect, not just give and receive.

◾Investment: they seek social return on investment and local partners for long-term results.

◾Enterprise and innovation: they encourage entrepreneurship through their projects in Africa and the fundraising in the UK. They develop programmes that solve old problems in new ways.

◾Being positive and passionate about potential: by helping to realise the potential of the most vulnerable children, they are enabling them to change Africa's future from the bottom-up.

The Best British Car Ever poll – background

Classic & Sports Carmagazine polled 100 key figures in the classic car world to establish a top ten shortlist. The criterion for the shortlist was straightforward: the car simply had to be recognised and acknowledged as British, so it didn't matter whether it was an Italian-designed Aston Martin or an American-engined Jensen. And selections could be made for any reason, so cars such as the original Mini and Austin Seven sit alongside technological tours de force such as the McLaren F1 and road-going racers such as the Jaguar XKSS.

Led by the expert editorial team from Classic & Sports Car – the world's best-selling classic car magazine - key players tasked with producing an overall shortlist included McLaren F1 designer Gordon Murray, Lotus Head of Design Russell Carr, Pink Floyd drummer and classic car collector, Nick Mason, Dire Straits front man and classic car enthusiast, Mark Knopfler, plus motor racing author and commentator, Simon Taylor. They debated a long list of cars with strong cases made for much-loved classics as varied as the Aston Martin DB5, Bristol 405, Ford Escort Mexico, Jaguar D-type, Rover SD1 and even the Gordon Keeble, before arriving at a top ten. The winner of the public vote will be announced at Classic & Sports Car – The London Show.

Alexandra Park and Palace

Alexandra Palace is one of London and the UK's most iconic buildings. Built as the 'People's Palace' in 1873, this remarkable seven-acre Grade II listed historic entertainment destination is surrounded by 196 acres of North London parkland and offers unprecedented views of the city.

The Palace and Park were created in the enterprising Victorian era to provide the people of North London with a magnificent cultural and recreational centre. Since then, Alexandra Palace has become globally recognised as the birthplace of the world's first high-definition television broadcast and has been home to the BBC Television Service, a horse racing track, cricket, football club and ice rink - as well as staging many legendary rock and pop concerts.

The historic venue continues to fulfil its original purpose of hosting an eclectic mix of live music, sport, cultural and leisure events. Its award winning Grade II listed parkland also remains at the heart of the local community and provides a beautiful and relaxing landscape for the enjoyment of people and pets alike.

A number of programmes are in place to preserve the Park and Palace's rich history for the future. One, led by the Park and Palace's Board of Trustees, is a whole-site regeneration programme which aims to make the Palace more financially sustainable as well as making accessible to the public the Palace's most historically significant areas. Furthermore a learning programme has been launched to support the national curriculum and shares with local schools and community groups the iconic venue's remarkable history.
