DAYTONA 24 HOUR-WINNING PORSCHE 962 HIGHLIGHTS MECUM KISSIMMEE 2016• Two Porsche Carrera GTs also on offer at the World's Largest Collector-Car Auction, Jan. 15-24

Walworth, Wis. – Dec. 15, 2015 – It's not every day that you can buy a Daytona 24 Hour-Winning Porsche 962 that master endurance-racer Derek Bell drove to his final 24-Hour victory, but the opportunity will arise at Mecum Kissimmee 2016, this January 15-24. Billed as the world's largest collector-car and Road Art auction, Mecum Kissimmee offers approximately 3,000 vehicles and more than 1,000 items of memorabilia and signs for sale each year.

One of the headline vehicles at Mecum Kissimmee 2016 is the 1989 Porsche 962 (Lot S98) chassis number 962-108. When the Jim Busby Racing 962 arrived at Daytona in 1989 in its now-famous Miller High Life livery, prognosticators had mostly written off the Porsches as no longer competitive, although the marque had won the previous-year's IMSA championship. But the Busby crew had on its side one of the best endurance drivers of all time, five-time Le Mans winner Bell, who with co-drivers Bob Wollek and John Andretti proceeded to steamroll the field to notch the 50th win for the 962 in international competition.

Bell has described the car as his favorite Group C Porsche, high praise indeed from the man who drove Porsches to four of his five overall wins in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and three at Daytona, twice winning the World Sports Car Championship in the process. The car's long list of racing achievements includes 11 top-five qualifying runs through the 1988-89 IMSA seasons, including the pole at Daytona in 1988 where it led most of the race and eventually finished second. During that same period, 962-108 finished on the podium five times, including victories in the 1989 Daytona 24 Hours and Palm Beach Grand Prix. Its successes were hard earned, the direct results of the relentless development for which Busby was famous.

The 962 is not the only rare car from Stuttgart at Mecum Kissimmee 2016. In fact, it is one of 29 Porsches that are available for bid at the auction. Two of the most valuable of the Porsches on offer are a pair of 2005 Carrera GTs, one finished in black (Lot S153) with a mere 909 miles and one finished in red (Lot S190) with only 2,720 miles, both of which will cross the block the same day as the 962 on Saturday, Jan. 23. The Carrera GT proved that not all supercars are created equal. Some cars tout levels of luxury; others possess less-than-super levels of build quality. The Porsche Carrera GT makes no compromise. The absolute best of Porsche engineering and design is purely focused into a beautifully disguised race car that can be driven on public roads. The Carrera GT is not merely race inspired but infused with Porsche racing heritage and collective motorsport technology. Decades of track-garnered knowledge combined with leading-edge technology work together for an unmatched experience. In the past few years these beautiful cars have proven to be outstanding investments for collectors.

Mecum Kissimmee 2016 is open to buyers, sellers and spectators with general admission tickets available at the gate for $30 per day or $180 for all 10 days; children 12 and younger are admitted free of charge. Portions of the auction will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network with a stream of the entire event presented on Mecum's website.
