Available to order now: Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupé and Shooting Brake. Fresh styling for the style rebel

Their sporty proportions and powerful, dynamic design idiom characterised by sensuously rounded contours make the CLA Coupé and CLA Shooting Brake quite unmistakable. In undertaking the facelift modifications, the Mercedes-Benz designers have subtly honed the distinctive look of both models and upgraded the interior. The adjustment in price is also modest: the most affordable model is the CLA 180 Coupé, priced from 29,250.20 euros1, just 36 euros more than its predecessor. The CLA Coupé and Shooting Brake are available to order now and are set to arrive at dealerships in July 2016.

The sporty, expressive design of the CLA Coupé and CLA Shooting Brake has now been honed still further in a facelift involving new bumpers, a diamond radiator grille in black as standard and new light-alloy wheels. Both vehicles can be fitted with LED High Performance headlamps as an option (1041.25 euros). Their colour temperature is closer to that of daylight than xenon headlamps, for example. This is more restful on the eyes and therefore provides relief to the driver at night. The optional LED High Performance headlamps are combined here with tail lights with automatic intensity control. These reduce the dazzling effect for vehicles following.

The interior has also benefited from numerous upgrades, including new seat upholstery and trim, chromed controls and a significantly slimmer, free-standing 20.3 cm (8-inch) media display with new cover glass. This is available as an optional extra (190.40 euros) for the standard-fit Audio 20 USB and for the Audio 20 CD (59.50 euros) and is fitted as standard in conjunction with COMAND Online (3522.40 euros).

Loading becomes easier with the HANDS-FREE ACCESS option. This system allows the boot lid or tailgate to be opened (Coupé and Shooting Brake) and even closed (Shooting Brake) without any physical contact. HANDS-FREE ACCESS is now included as part of the KEYLESS-GO Convenience package (773.50/1094.80 euros for Coupé/Shooting Brake).

The Smartphone Integration package (357.00 euros) allows iPhones® and Android smartphones to be integrated on board (iPhones® via Apple CarPlay® and Android smartphones via Android Auto™) and operated using voice commands or the Controller on the centre console.

The new efficiency champion is the CLA 180 d BlueEFFICIENCY Edition with an output of 80 kW (109 hp), which is available with manual transmission only. Thanks to consumption-reducing measures and the exemplary aerodynamics, its CO2 emissions are 89/94 g/km (figures for Coupé / Shooting Brake). Prices: 31,535.00 euros for the Coupé, 32,130.00 euros for the Shooting Brake.

The new CLA 220 4MATIC expands the choice for fans of all-wheel drive. Its four-cylinder petrol engine with a displacement of 1991 cc, delivers an output of 135 kW (184 hp) and is paired as standard with the 7G-DCT. The prices for the new 4MATIC entry-level model: 36,901.90 euros for the Coupé, 37,496.90 euros for the Shooting Brake.

Latest AMG design idiom: CLA 45 4MATIC

'Avant-garde meets Driving Performance' is the motto for the Mercedes-AMG models CLA 45 4MATIC and CLA 45 4MATIC Shooting Brake. With a peak output of 280 kW (381 hp) and maximum torque of 475 Nm they are among the most powerful vehicles in their segment. The new prices: 56,822.50 and 57,417.50 euros (for Coupé/Shooting Brake).

An AMG Aerodynamics package is now available as an optional extra (1190.00 euros). This comprises a larger front splitter, additional flics, a black AMG spoiler lip at the rear plus spoiler lips over the simulated air outlets on either side at the back.

New 48.3 cm (19-inch) AMG cross-spoke light-alloy wheels with 235/35 R 19 tyres on 8 J x 19 ET 48 are available as an option. There are two colour variants – a matt black or a titanium grey finish (1368.50/952.00 euros) - in each case with a high-sheen rim flange.

The interior has been similarly upgraded. The instrument panel is upholstered as standard in ARTICO man-made leather, as are the beltlines. Both are given an exclusive finishing touch of red contrasting topstitching. The trim element represents a further highlight: this features a matt printed finish, although the essential structure still has a polished surface that bears the AMG logo. Also new is the optional AMG DINAMICA Cockpit package (773.50 euros or 416.50 euros in conjunction with AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package) with DINAMICA trim and DINAMICA Performance steering wheel.

Over 150,000 Mercedes-Benz compact models sold in first quarter

In March 2016 Mercedes-Benz's sales figures in the compact vehicle segment were up 21.9% against the same month in the previous year: 66,930 customers took delivery of a new A-Class, B-Class, CLA, CLA Shooting Brake or GLA – a new record. Over 150,000 compact models were sold in the first quarter of 2016 (+25.8%).
