BREMBO BRAKE FACTS FOR THE GRAND PRIX DE ESPAÑA PIRELLIDETROIT, (May 13, 2016) – Brembo is pleased to continue its initiative dedicated to the media covering the Formula 1 World Championship that shows braking facts for F1 cars specific to each circuit. The Grand Prix de España Pirelli plays host to the fifth race of the 2016 Formula 1 World Championship season from May 13-15 at the Circuit de Bacelona (Catalunya).

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya was built in 1991 and is one that the drivers and engineers are very familiar as it is a favorite amongst teams for pre-season testing.

The track's level of grip is always very high and, with about 18% of every lap spent on the brakes, it can be considered a medium demanding track for the brakes. On the other hand, the straight stretches allow efficient heat dissipation between one braking section and the next. The most demanding braking section is made up of the ELF Turn, which is also on a downhill and has deceleration greater than 5 Gs.

Brake use during the GP

The time spent braking, 18 percent of the overall duration of the race, is the lowest among the first seven races in the 2016 championship. The average deceleration is 3.8 g, Furthermore, throughout the race each driver has to brake approximately 525 times. Turn 1, with its entry speed over 200 mph is the most demanding turn on the brakes at Catalunya.
