VOLKSWAGEN ANDRETTI RALLYCROSS RETURNS TO DAYTONA FOR RED BULL GLOBAL RALLYCROSS DOUBLEHEADER

Tanner Foust hopes for a repeat of last year's victory while teammate Scott Speed is ready to make up ground in the championship standings at Daytona
Herndon, VA — After an impressive start to the season, the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross (VARX) team is ready to make its first trip to a returning Red Bull Global Rallycross venue this season, heading to Daytona International Speedway this weekend, June 18-19. After a pair of victories at the season-opening rounds in Phoenix, VARX drivers Tanner Foust and Scott Speed were once again the competitors to beat in Dallas, setting the fastest times in qualifying and winning every Heat and Semifinal race until a first-lap incident in the Final shuffled both drivers back in the field. With a larger, more open course that will allow the Beetle GRC to stretch its legs, the team is hoping to reassert its dominance at the doubleheader event in Daytona.
'Dallas wasn't the result we wanted, but we were still the quickest cars out there, so we can look ahead to the next set of races with some confidence,' said current points leader Foust. 'The track in Daytona has been changed a little since we last raced there, but like every GRC race, the key is to get out front early, so our qualifying will be key.'
The driver of the No. 34 Rockstar Energy Drink Beetle GRC enjoys a 25-point advantage in the standings and hopes to maintain or grow that lead throughout the weekend. If teammate Speed has his way, he'll take a chunk out of the deficit, beginning a solid defense of the title he earned in 2015.
'It's been a while since I've stood on top of the podium, and I'm more than ready to end the drought,' declared the driver of the No. 41 BFGoodrich Beetle GRC. 'I know if we have a smooth weekend, there's plenty of speed in the car to get there. We're in a decent position with the points right now, but there's nothing like winning, so I'd like to get back to doing that!'
Despite the problems in Dallas, Volkswagen maintains a two-point lead in the Manufacturer Championship. 'Going back to last season, it seems like doubleheaders work out well for us,' remarked Foust. 'Let's hope that magic continues and we can make the most of the two races this weekend.'
Rounds Four and Five of the 2016 Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship from Daytona will air LIVE on NBC this Sunday, June 19 at 2:30PM (ET).
