Time Capsule Jaguar Supercar Joins an Already Stellar Line Up at Russo and Steele's 16th Annual Monterey Collector Automobile Auction Event!Scottsdale, Arizona (July 28th, 2016) – Descending from a linage that is unquestionably one of the most storied, celebrated and highly regarded in race, luxury and performance automobile history, the Jaguar XJ220 is a mid-engine supercar that was produced by Jaguar in collaboration with Tom Walkinshaw Racing between 1992 and 1994. Until the arrival of the McLaren F1 in 1994, the XJ220 held the coveted position of world's fastest production automobile, with still blistering top speeds of 217 and a sprint from 0-60 in a mere 3.8 seconds. Still recognized as one of the top performing Supercars of all time, its legendary 542bhp, 3,498cc 24-valve twin turbo V6, five-speed manual transmission, four-wheel independent suspension and four-wheel vented disc brakes made it one of Coventry's all time fiercest cats. In addition, being one of only 271 built, with less than 15 imported to the United States (with Federal Import Approval for Show & Display), the XJ220 is also designated as one of its rarest.

From the XJ220's initial inception, race bred, on road performance was the sole and singular target that Jaguar was attempting to strike. Seeking to fill what they felt was a void between racing cars and the street examples available to the public, Jaguar and their Director of Engineering, Jim Randle, went to the drawing board, inspired to design and build a road car capable of winning Le Mans, just as the legendary Jaguar C-Type and D-Type had once accomplished. Work began in late 1987 and a 1:4 scale cardboard model of a potential Group B racing car was created. The cardboard model was taken into the Jaguar styling studio and two mock-ups were produced. One was said to be reminiscent of the Porsche 956, the other took elements of the then current Jaguar XJ41 project and the sadly defunct Jaguar XJ13 racing car project. The second design was chosen as it remained truer to Jaguars roots, was 'more obviously Jaguar in its look', and the XJ220 concept was born.

Finished in rare and highly exotic Monza Red, this beautiful 1993 Jaguar XJ220 benefits from a gentle life of pampered and enthusiastic preservation minded use. Currently displaying just 871 kilometers (541 miles), this flagship supercar offers showroom cosmetic quality and mechanical condition and is surely one of the most finely preserved examples available anywhere in the world today. Featuring near time capsule level low mileage and a perfect ownership history, it marks a once in a lifetime discovery that most certainly qualifies it as an important piece of road going automotive performance history. An undeniably rare and incredibly exciting example of Jaguar's fastest street machine, it would make a magical addition to any collection of modern or classic performance cars.
