• Cooper and O'Connell have Utah wins
NEW YORK, Ny. - Cadillac Racing is headed west to Utah Motorsports Campus for rounds 16 and 17 of the Pirelli World Challenge GT Championship to run August 12-14. On the strength of his win in the last race at Mid-Ohio two weeks ago, Cooper (Syosset, N.Y.) is third in the GT standings with 1,207 points just 101 out of first place (Alvaro Parente, 1,308 points leads). O'Connell (Flowery Branch, Ga.) is fourth with 1,123. The duo have both won races at the 3.04-mile, 14-turn natural terrain road course. O'Connell posted double race wins in his Cadillac ATS-V.R Coupe last year and Cooper has won in the GTS series. 'Utah Motorsports Campus has been another strong circuit for me,' Cooper said. 'I made my GTS debut at the track in 2014 and I was able to win the second race in the GTS class last year. The track has always been one of the nicest facilities that we visit. I'm even more excited to get back to Tooele and see what kind of updates have been made since the new ownership took over. The goal this weekend, pass everybody and win some more races. I don't see why we can't do that this weekend.'
'I really enjoy Utah Motorsports Park,' O'Connell said. 'It's fun to drive, but also races very well. There are several good overtaking areas. The designer got it right on this one. Not knowing where the BOP (balance of performance) is going to come out, it's hard to say how things will go this weekend. If it's anything like the last two rounds, I would expect the Acura, with its big top end advantage to be tough to beat. I do know, that our Cadillac ATS-V.R Coupe will handle great and be ready.'
O'Connell on going for a fifth championship. 'With the electrical issues at road America and the cut tire at Lime Rock we've had more issues take points away from us than the other guys. You can count on me to push hard and hope they suffer through a little bad luck. If they do, we're right back in it. We'll fight for that fifth championship all the way to Laguna.'
The Pirelli World Challenge Series races from Utah Motorsports Campus will be televised on the CBS Sports Network Sunday, August 21 at 2 p.m. ET. Follow the action with live-streaming at MotorTrendOnDemand.com and live timing viahttp://livetiming.net/pwc/.
