- First 2016 Porsche 911 R at auction
- Only 991 Porsche 911 R ever to be made – all pre-sold
Bonhams is to offer the very first 2016 Porsche 911 R to come to auction at The Zoute Sale at Knokke Le-Zoute in Belgium on Friday 7 October. It is estimated at €250,000-350,000 (£210,000-300,000).
The design of the 911 R represents a return to basics for Porsche and boasts features including:
- Six speed manual transmission gearbox. This is contrast with the vast majority of new Porsche which have PDK – Doppelkupplung i.e double clutch gearboxes
- Naturally aspirated 500hp engine
- No wings or exterior special accessories
- Light-weight with its 1370kg
- Rear wheel drive - most cars are now equipped with 4-wheel drive
Regarded by many as the 911 R's biggest selling point, the new six-speed manual gearbox is lighter than the PDK type, while the use of carbon fiber front wings and a titanium exhaust system, coupled with the removal of sound insulation, enabled Porsche to bring the 911 R's kerb weight down to 1,370kg, making it around 50kg lighter than the GT3 RS. If that was still not enough, the air conditioning and radio could be deleted, saving a few more kilograms.
The Porsche 911 R is capable of more than 300km/h but despite its stupendous performance, it has been developed principally as a road car, with lighter steering, softer suspension, and narrower tires than more racing focused models such as the GT3 RS.
Sold new in July 2016 to the current Swedish private owner, this particular 911 R is numbered 135, making it an early example from the production line. It is finished in white and has a black/brown two-tone interior in leather. It has only been driven for 52 kilometres.
Bonhams motoring representative in Belgium, Gregory Tuytens said, 'The Porsche 911 R is a car for real purists and fully justifies the title of the most sought-after modern Porsche today. Six months ago the launch price was around €200,000, but already the Porsche 911 R is being traded at €500,000-600,000. We believe our very fair estimate will attract a great deal of attention from enthusiasts keen to acquire one of the rarest Porsche around.'

Only 991 of these Porsche will ever be made. This car is new – it was delivered in July 2016 – and the production run has still not come to an end. All the 991 cars have been presold to Porsche's preferred customers.
