Volkswagen Power drives Norris and Eriksson to victory

Lando Norris (GB, Team Carlin) and Joel Eriksson (S, Team Motopark) presented Volkswagen with two victories at the opening round of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship at Silverstone (GB). Norris claimed his maiden win in the most prestigious junior racing series in Europe with victory in race one. He was joined on the podium by another driver powered by the Volkswagen engine, runner-up Jake Dennis (GB, Team Carlin). Race two was won by Eriksson, with Dennis fifth and Norris coming home ninth. Eriksson (55 points) went on to secure the overall lead in the Formula 3 European Championship with second place in race three. Dallara-Mercedes driver Callum Ilott (GB), who won the third race, is second in the overall standings with 43 points. Norris is third overall following the Silverstone weekend, and tops the rookie standings ahead of the next three races in Monza (I, 29–30 April).

TCR International Series

Volkswagen driver Vernay tops table

Jean-Karl Vernay finished third and fourth with the Volkswagen Golf GTI in the TCR International Series in Bahrain. The Frenchman from Volkswagen customer team Leopard Racing picked up 27 points over the Easter weekend to move into the lead in the overall TCR standings (52 points). In second place with 51 points is Dušan Borković (SRB, Alfa Romeo), who won race two at the Formula 1 circuit. Volkswagen driver Gianni Morbidelli (I, West Coast Racing) claimed two top-ten finishes in the Golf GTI TCR, courtesy of ninth place in the opening race and tenth in race two. Morbidelli's team-mate Giacomo Altoè (I) finished tenth in race one to score one point. The next race weekend will take place at Spa-Francorchamps (B) from 04 to 06 May.

Race two, win number two: Benjamin Leuchter and Andreas Gülden earned a second victory in the TCR class for the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR at round two of the VLN Endurance Championship Nürburgring last week. Having won the opening VLN race in March, the German duo from Cologne-based Volkswagen customer team Mathilda Racing racked up win number two with the 350-hp Golf GTI at the DMV 4-Hour Race on the Nordschleife. At the end of 26 laps of racing, they crossed the finish line over a lap clear of runners-up Jürgen Nett/Joachim Nett/Bradley Philpot (D, D, GB, Peugeot). Leuchter and Gülden again left many more powerful cars in their wake to finish a strong 39th overall out of 136 classified cars.
