First Week of Sales Jump at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca
December 17, 2018 by WeatherTech Raceway Laguna SecaMONTEREY, Calif., December 17, 2018 – Signaling a strong start to the 2019 WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca season, first week of advance ticket sales increased over the previous year for the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, which features the 50th anniversary of IMSA August 15-18, climbed 24 percent over first week of sales for the same time period. The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the premier sports car racing series in North America that returns to Monterey September 13-15, jumped 32 percent in sales. This positions both events at Monterey County's WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in a favorable sphere, as final 2018 attendance at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion was 67,128, while the IMSA race attracted 36,917, both significantly strong numbers. The IMSA series has long served up some of the most competitive racing in North America. Its maiden race at Laguna Seca was in 1974 and won by Elliot Forbes Robinson in a Porsche 911 RSR, establishing a rich history of IMSA being intertwined with the scenic Monterey area. The increase in sales shows a growing interest in events at the legendary road course that has been home to sports car racing continuously since its inception in 1957. Over the years, the iconic race track has hosted international events from sports cars and motorcycles to prototypes and Indy cars. After a 15-year absence, Indy cars are returning to Monterey following the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. INDYCAR, whose tickets went on sale earlier in the year, is anticipated to attract a large spectator audience to the Monterey Peninsula, particularly among corporate sponsors. Fans are also tempted by the weeklong thrills and combined price packaging of attending IMSA and INDYCAR on consecutive weekends during WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca's 'Monterey Speed Week' September 13-22. Both of the renowned races will be televised live to an international audience on the NBC network. VIP, hospitality, and multi- or single-day tickets to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca's major events are on sale by calling 831-242-8200 or visiting www.WeatherTechRaceway.com.
