American Muscle Roars its Way to Gooding & Company's 2019 Scottsdale AuctionsExceptional Offerings that Include Road and Racing Cobras, Chevrolet Muscle Cars, and a Historic Dry Lakes Roadster

Santa Monica, Calif. (December 11, 2018) – Gooding & Company, the auction house acclaimed for selling the world's most significant and valuable American car with the recent sale of the 1935 Duesenberg SSJ, will present an exciting assortment of classic American performance and competition cars at its annual Scottsdale Auctions on January 18 and 19, 2019. Collectors and enthusiasts will not want to miss the presentation of these rare examples, which represent nearly 20 years of American car culture.

1966 Shelby 427 Cobra (Estimate: $1,100,000 – $1,400,000)

Gooding is proud to present CSX3107, an early production example of a true 427 Cobra. Among the earliest of just 260 built, the car is equipped with the original low-rise 427 motor sporting dual four-barrel Holley carburetors. Originally delivered in Maine, the car saw limited use and has been in the care of three West Coast collectors for the past 30 years. The Cobra was just treated to a year-long, show-quality restoration by famed restorer Dave Wagner of Detroit, MI. A new owner has the opportunity to present and enjoy this beautiful Cobra in its classic and original color combination of red over black interior.

1964 Shelby 289 Cobra (Estimate: $950,000 – $1,100,000)

This desirable, late-production rack-and-pinion 289 Cobra has a well-documented provenance and a beautiful restoration by Cobra specialist Dave Wagner. The original owner kept this car for over 20 years and CSX2246 has remained on the West Coast since it was delivered new in San Francisco. Stunningly presented in the car's original color combination of Princess Blue over red interior, CSX2246 is among the finest examples of a road-going 289 Cobra.

1965 Shelby 289 Cobra (Estimate: $900,000 – $1,100,000)

One of only 30 independently prepared competition Cobras, CSX2448 was successfully campaigned at numerous SCCA regional and national races throughout the 1960s. The current owner acquired this exceptional Cobra in 1976 and spent over $460,000 to restore his beloved car to its original specifications. Finished in black, the Cobra is equipped with Weber carburetors, Halibrand wheels, side pipes, roll bar, and other special equipment. The sale of CSX2448 represents a rare opportunity to purchase a documented independent competition Cobra from its long-term owner.

1969 Chevrolet Corvette L88 Convertible (Estimate: $500,000 – $600,000)

Few cars from the 1960s have the performance prowess possessed by the Corvette L88. One of only 116 Corvette L88s built in 1969, this well-documented example is presented in an elegant and rare burgundy over black interior color scheme. In the late 2000s, this L88 received restoration work by Kevin Mackay of Corvette Repair in Valley Stream, NY. Extremely rare and brutally powerful, this pristine L88 is one of the most desirable Corvettes available.

1948 Spurgin-Giovanine Roadster (Estimate: $250,000 – $350,000)

This car is among the most historic dry lake roadsters dating from the Golden Age of Southern California hot rodding. Constructed by Albata Club members Chuck Spurgin and Bob Giovanine, this car was the 1948 SCTA Class A Roadster Champion with a perfect 1800-point score, which it earned by placing first and setting a new record at every meet. The car was then featured on the cover of the 1949 March issue of Hot Rod magazine. The current owner treated the car to a full restoration overseen by SCTA historian Terry Baldwin, as well as the Giovanine, Spurgin, and Borgh families. Completed in 2009, the roadster was displayed at the 2010 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance® and took First in Class awards at the Grand National Roadster Show and Palos Verdes Concours d'Elegance. In 2015, it was inducted into the Dry Lakes Racing Hall of Fame. This is an exceptional example of American ingenuity and craftsmanship and Gooding & Company is proud to present such a treasure.
