A tool-room copy Jaguar D-Type Recreation heads the sale of an unusual collection of cars at Silverstone Auctions live online sale on the 23rd May.

Sixteen cars are offered from a private collection with some very unusual and interesting models. The Jaguar D-Type Recreation is a fascinating story of detail, originality and skill.

Two specialist engineers got together and over two years set about creating the most detailed and exact copy of the legendary D-Type using drawings and incredibly rare parts amassed over the preceding years.

The result is no ordinary recreation, but a tool-room copy with FIA papers and a road registration, which found its way into a private collection of a well-known collector. It remained there for seven to eight years before passing to another large private collection such is the quality of the car.

This D-Type is an impressive car offered at £225,000 to £275,000, a fraction of the cost of an original, but recreated using some original parts from original drawings and comes with a history file detailing its build. A great opportunity to acquire an iconic car.

Introduced in 1957 as a sub-model to the DS, the Citroen ID19 came in a number of forms. In the UK the Safari was what we would now call an estate and came with the Citroens legendary hydropneumatic self-levelling suspension providing a very high ride quality. This particular car being offered from the same collection is a 1964 Citroen ID19 Safari built in Slough and fastidiously maintained for the next 27 years. From 1999 onwards it underwent some restoration and a full repaint and in 2008 formed part of a significant collection. The current vendor purchased the car in 2014 and is now offering it to a new home for an estimated £15,000 to £18,000.

Ever fancied owning a Bugatti Type 35? Well here is your chance to own something very similar, a Teal Type 35 inspired by the legendary French racer. This is a hand-built car with a 1.8-litre MGB engine and presented in French Blue. At £12,000 to £15,000 this car is a lovely looking car.

As part of the collection being offered, there are two Austin A90 Atlantics. The first a 1950 Convertible at £12,000 to £15,000 looking fabulous in Seafoam Green. With just under 30,000 miles and in right-hand drive this car has clearly been looked after over time and at some point, been restored. This is a very glamorous car, with just 7,981 built. Offered at No Reserve is a 1952 Sports Saloon with an indicated 5,268 miles and is in need of a refresh to be brought back to its glamorous former self.

There are also three, very good and smart examples of a Borgward, an Isabella Saloon, Combi and a Coupe all of which are being offered at No Reserve. Borgward was a very successful company in the 1950s and by 1959 more Isabellas were sold abroad than any other German car.

Nick Whale, Silverstone Auctions Managing Director commented: 'This is a very unusual collection of cars with some lovely rarities. Not all of the Lots have estimates, some are being offered at No Reserve.'

'The Peugeot 202 Canadienne Woodie is particularly rare, as is the Ford Granada, a 3.0 litre XL Coupe which was never available in the UK.'

'There is also a Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit and a Corniche, both great opportunities to own and after a bit of detailing would provide the new owner with a lot of pleasure.'

All the cars are being kept in a single secure storage facility and the Silverstone Auctions team are now accepting appointments for one to one viewings in line with Government guidance.
